What the CV builder does

The builder is for people starting from nothing — a first CV, a career change, or a document so old it’s easier to rebuild than to rescue. You don’t need an existing file, and you don’t need to know how a CV should be laid out. You pick a design first, then answer plain questions about your work, and the design fills in around your answers as you go.

Every screen asks for one thing at a time: who you are, where you’ve worked, what you studied, what you can do, and how you’d summarise yourself. There’s no blank page and no formatting to fight — no tab stops, no margins, no wrestling with a word processor to stop a bullet point jumping to the next page.

What the builder will not do is make things up on your behalf. Phrase suggestions are offered from a curated library and from your own answers; employers, dates, and qualifications only ever come from what you typed. When you pay, a separate verification pass re-reads the finished CV against your entries and rejects anything that can’t be traced back to them.

The six steps

Step one — CV heading. Your name and how an employer reaches you: email, phone, and the town or city you’re based in. This is the block recruiters look at first and the block applicant tracking systems parse first, so it’s deliberately the shortest screen in the wizard.

Step two — work history. One role at a time: job title, employer, location, and the months you started and finished. Each role takes bullet points describing what you actually did. If you’re stuck, suggested phrasing for your job title is one click away, and you can edit every word of it before it lands on the page.

Step three — education. Qualifications, the institution, and the year. School-leavers, graduates, and people with thirty years behind them all use the same screen; the designs that suit early careers put this section above work history automatically.

Step four — skills. The things you’d want a recruiter to see in the skills block. Keep it to what you can evidence — the CV is stronger for eight real skills than for twenty aspirational ones.

Step five — professional summary. Three to five lines at the top of the CV saying who you are and what you’re aiming at. You can write it yourself or start from a draft built out of the answers you’ve already given.

Step six — finalise. A quality score against a fixed rubric, a checklist of anything still missing, and the last chance to switch design, colour, or spacing. Nothing here costs anything; you can leave and come back to the same draft.

Two kinds of design

Most of the designs are ATS-safe: single-column, standard typography, no tables used for layout, no images, no text boxes, and real heading structure rather than visual styling. Applicant tracking systems are plain parsers — give them a two-column layout and whole sections can be dropped or filed under the wrong field. These are built so your content lands where it should.

You are not locked in. Switching design mid-build never loses a word: the content is stored separately from the layout, so you can try every design against your own text and change your mind on the final screen. The same is true of the accent colour and the line spacing.

What it costs and what you get

Building and previewing your CV costs nothing. You pay £2, once, at the moment you download — no account needed up front, no card details taken to start, no trial that quietly becomes a subscription. Recurring billing isn’t something we’ve switched off for now; it’s something this product will never have.

The £2 covers an AI pass that sharpens your bullet points and drafts your executive summary, a separate hallucination check across every claim, and your finished ATS-safe Word document, downloadable straight away and emailed to you as well.

There’s one optional extra at the checkout: a matching cover letter for another £2, written from the CV you just built and delivered as a second Word document. It’s a tick box, not a default, and skipping it changes nothing about the CV.

If the pipeline fails after you’ve paid — invalid output, a tripped guardrail, a render that won’t complete — the payment is refunded automatically and you get an email about it. There is no refund form to fill in.

The wording, the spelling, and the conventions are British. Dates are written the way UK employers expect, the summary sits at the top as a professional profile rather than an American-style objective, and the language pass enforces British spellings throughout — organise, centre, specialised.

There is no photograph, no date of birth, no marital status, and no nationality field, because UK employers are not supposed to be selecting on any of them and a CV that volunteers them is a CV that can be quietly filtered. The designs have no space reserved for a headshot.

Clichés are blocked at the point the AI writes: passionate, results-driven, dynamic, team player, hard-working, detail-oriented and their relatives never make it onto the page. What goes on instead is what you actually did, in stronger verbs, with your own numbers preserved exactly as you entered them.

Your draft, your data

Drafts are reached by an unguessable link rather than a login, so you can close the tab and come back to the same CV later without creating an account first. Abandoned drafts are cleared out automatically; finished documents are deleted from storage seven days after delivery.

We don’t sell or share what you write, and the AI vendor operates under a training opt-out for paid usage, so your CV text isn’t used to train future models. Order events are logged for debugging and monitoring; the contents of your CV are not.
